AC4 Computer Donations Grant Program

The Association of Christian Community Computer Centers (AC4) is collaborating with the Beaumont Foundation of America to provide grants of new Toshiba-branded computers and other hardware to existing community technology programs. The Foundation has approximately $350 million in computers that will be distributed to schools, community and faith-based organizations over the next four years. What is the computer donation grants program?

The Association of Christian Community Computer Centers is one of several national organizations collaborating with the Beaumont Foundation of America, which will provide grants of new Toshiba-branded computers and other hardware to existing community technology programs. The Foundation has approximately $350 million in computers that will be distributed to schools, community and faith-based organizations over the next four years. Grants will range from $20,000-$200,000 each and will be provided in the form of new equipment only.

What are the requirements for the grants program?

Criteria are set by the Beaumont Foundation. Final requirements are awaiting Board approval, but currently the key restrictions are:

  1. The organization must have a technology program that has been in operation for at least a year and primarily serves citizens at or below the poverty level. The organization must have one full-time staff to support the tech program.
  2. The organization must be a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization or have 170(c)(1) or 170(c)(2) status.
  3. The computers must be used to serve low-income communities through programs involving technology. This could include computers used by program participants in after-school programs, job training programs, computer classes, entrepreneurship programs, language programs and adult basic education, etc. The computers are intended to be used primarily by program participants rather than staff.
  4. Only organizations from the following states will be able to apply in 2003, with all other states being able to apply in 2004: Alabama, Alaska, California , Colorado, District of Columbia , Hawaii , Idaho , Illinois , Kansas , Mississippi , Montana , Nebraska , New Mexico , New York , North & South Dakota, Oregon , Texas , Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wyoming.

Are there any restrictions on faith?

No. Keep in mind that the computers are intended to be used primarily by program participants rather than staff.

How do I apply for the grant?

AC4 and the Beaumont Foundation of America are still finalizing the collaboration. AC4 members should review the guidelines (posted November 15) and application on the Beaumont Foundation’s website (www.bmtfoundation.com). The Beaumont Foundation will make all final awards. Should there be any questions or assistance needed when completing the application, please call AC4 at 617-282-9798. Once the application is complete and sent to the Beaumont Foundation, the Foundation will forward it to AC4.
