Out-Of –State Grandfathering for N-8 teachers and Teachers of the Handicapped

OUT-OF –STATE GRANDFATHERING TEACHERS OF THE HANDICAPPED

Teacher of the Handicapped Grandfathering:

Pursuant to recent code changes to N.J.A.C. 6A:9-11.3 (See Phase 4 amendments)
Candidates who complete an out-of-state special education teacher preparation program may be eligible to be grandfathered for the teacher of the Handicapped endorsement.
The following timelines apply:

Candidates must be matriculated in their respective programs by Spring 2005;
Candidates must complete program by Sept. 1, 2008; and
Candidates must apply to the NJDOE Office of Licensure and Credentials by March 1, 2009.

To apply for the teacher of the Handicapped grandfathered certificate, please do the following:

Download and complete this special application (Adobe Acrobat required);
Obtain official transcripts;
Obtain signed and dated Verification of Program Completion form from institution where special education teacher preparation program was completed;
Submit a certified check or money order for $95.00 made out to the Commissioner of Education.
