There are three different types of certificates to choose from: CE, CEAS, and Standard.
Certificate Type: CE
The certificate of eligibility is a credential with lifetime validity issued to an individual who has not completed a teacher preparation program.
Certficate Type: CEAS
The certifificate of eligibility with advanced standing is a credential issued to an individual who has completed a teacher preparation program. The CEAS is issued to an individual who does not hold a New Jersey standard certificate or has not completed one year of full-time teaching under a valid out-of-state instructional certificate.
Certficate Type: Standard
This is a permanent certificate issued to an individual who has met all requirements for state certification. This certificate is issued to an individual who has successfully completed the PTP program, holds a previously issued NJ standard instructional certificate, or is someone who holds a valid out-of-state instructional certificate with one year of full-time teaching experience under the certificate.
Step 3. Apply Online
Please apply online at NJ Department of Education for certification through TCIS and pay the fee at https://www6.state.nj.us/DOE_TCIS_ONLINEED/login.jsp.
Step 4. Applicant Checklist
After applying online, please submit ALL necessary documentation together IN A SINGLE PACKET to the NJ DOE in order to complete your application. Please submit the following documents: either US citizen Oath of Allegiance (or Non-US Citizen Oath of Allegiance and Non-Citizen Affidavit of Intent to Become a Citizen) , official sealed transcripts, and copy of test scores, a copy of your out –of state certification, and a letter of experience.
