Carrie Jacobus

Carrie Jacobus has a B.S. and M.S. in chemistry and is also an internationally exhibited and published fiber artist.  Her creativity extends into the classroom for the last 16 years where her high energy and enthusiasm encourages students to work hard and succeed in Chemistry.  Carrie's mission is to make students become scientifically literate consumers in the 21st century.  Her focus is to help students think critically and reason to solve problems individually and as a group.

Carrie has presented at a variety of conferences such as the NJ Science Convention, Chem Ed, BCCE (Biennial Conference on Chemical Education), and the ACS Conference.  She has been involved in POGIL (Processed Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning), and is a contributing author in the published HSPI Project (High School POGIL Initiative) for first year and AP Chemistry. She is also a contributing author in the new AP Chemistry Inquiry Lab Book published by the College Board this past spring.

In 2005, Carrie started the NJ AP Chem Teacher Group to help AP Chemistry teachers share ideas and support each other.  She is also the coach for the River Dell NJ Chemistry Olympic team which competes at NJIT in the spring.  She has led the team to take first place for the last 3 years. This year Carrie was a recipient of The Record Star Teacher Award.
