Working as a member of an instructional team, teacher aides provide important supports to students with disabilities within general education preschool programs. Deciding when a teacher aide is needed and how to use teacher aides effectively are important considerations both within the IEP process and as part of ongoing classroom practice. This workshop will address these considerations by defining the roles and responsibilities of teacher aides as well as other instructional team members to support individual student needs within the daily routines and activities of the preschool day. Strategies for enhancing team communication, collaboration, instructional planning and problem solving will be presented.
Audience: A preschool team, minimum of two members, to include at least one child study team member or administrator; other team members may include: additional child study team members, special education teachers, general education teachers or related service providers.
