Steps to a Successful Service-Learning Project

Integrating service-learning into a curriculum requires the collaboration of educators and school administrators with community-based organizations that wish to be partnered with a school program.

1. Define your goal: What is it that you want to achieve?

Working with people through tutoring, mentoring or visiting the elderly.

Channeling resources and goods such as drives, fundraising, collections, clean-ups, construction, and environmental projects.

Informing the public on an issue or need by lobbying, speaking, and/or supporting.

2. Build support: Who can help us achieve our goal?

3. Research: Is this a problem? How big/small is it?

4. Make a plan: What should I do next?
