Commissioner Announces Technology Fellowship Awards
Twenty-one educators were recognized today as participants in a unique state technology program sponsored by the State Board of Education. The recipients selected in the Technology Fellowship: Mentoring and Modeling program were announced to the board by Commissioner of Education Vito A. Gagliardi, Sr.
"The Department of Education initiated this technology fellowship program with the New Jersey Education Association to identify 20 exemplary teachers who effectively use educational technology in their classrooms," said Commissioner Gagliardi.
"These teachers will play an important role in developing and implementing a statewide program of mentoring and modeling technology instruction and programming," Dr. Gagliardi said. "They will be released from their district responsibilities in the coming school year to work with the Educational Technology Training Centers (ETTCs) and the Department of Education to share their talents and skills by serving as trainers.
Selection of the technology fellowship recipients was based on their effective use of instructional technology using activities identified in the districts approved technology plan, with particular emphasis on student achievement of the Core Curriculum Content Standards.
Activities for the New Jersey Technology Fellowship: Mentoring and Modeling Program will result in successful instructional technology practices to benefit all teachers in New Jersey. The technology fellows will:
- design and implement programs focusing on using technology to teach the Core Curriculum Content Standards;
- participate in school-based mentoring activities;
- provide turnkey professional development; and
- develop multimedia web-based materials.
In addition to using their experience to benefit school districts statewide, the technology fellows will return to their school districts with many resources gathered from a year of research, development and implementation experiences with state-of-the-art technology. The fellowship program is the only one of its kind in the nation.
