Nominations Sought for All-USA Teacher Team

New Jersey schools have an opportunity to participate in a national program to recognize outstanding teachers. The program, known as the All-USA Teacher Team, is in its fourth year.

"Teachers are at the heart of learning," said Commissioner of Education Vito A. Gagliardi, Sr. "They are the change agents in the classroom who can inspire and guide their students to success. I recommend that school districts throughout the state take advantage of this opportunity to give their outstanding teachers the recognition and honor they deserve."

The All-USA Teacher Team is sponsored by USA Today and promoted by the U.S. Department of Education.

Teachers considered for the program may be nominated by anyone – students, parents, administrators or colleagues – willing to describe what the teachers are doing to advance student knowledge, unlock student minds, and make a difference in students’ lives. Nominees complete the form and describe what they do to achieve their success.

Nominations are due by June 30, 2001. For more information and downloadable forms, visit the program’s website:

The 20 teachers named to the First Team will win trophies and $2,500 for their schools. They will be featured in USA Today in October.
