Commissioner of Education William L. Librera Releases Statement on State
Aid Figures;
Will Host Press Availability on State Aid on Friday, February 7 at 10
a.m.
Commissioner of Education William L. Librera today released a statement on the state aid figures, which were posted on the Department of Education website earlier today:
"Gov. James E. McGreevey has demonstrated his unwavering commitment to public education as the cornerstone of his administration in word as well as in deed. In the most difficult of fiscal times, perhaps the most difficult our state has ever faced, the Governor still made his commitment to education a significant budget priority. All of us, beginning with the Governor, would certainly want to support our schools with greater aid, but, as the Governor clearly stated, we cannot spend money we do not have."
Commissioner Librera and senior DOE officials will host a press availability on Friday, February 7 at 10 a.m. to discuss and answer questions about 2003-2004 state aid figures.
The meeting will be held at the first floor conference room B at the DOE Headquarters, 100 River View Plaza in Trenton (off Route 29 south).
The state aid figures were released by the DOE today at noon. They are accessible via:
