Advisory to all Chief School Administrators and Charter School Lead Persons:

From the New Jersey Department of Education

A joint memo from the Departments of Education and Environmental Protection has been issued containing important information about the requirements for schools under the New Jersey School Integrated Pest Management Act of 2002. All schools must implement a school integrated pest management (IPM) policy by June 2004. It is important that you distribute this memo to each building principal in your district or lead person in your charter school.

The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) will assist districts with policy development by creating a model policy based on feedback obtained through a Web-based survey. It is in the best interests of all districts to take the time to provide the requested information when the instructions for accessing and completing the Web-based survey are e-mailed by the DEP to the district, along with instructions. The memo is available at

Thank you for your cooperation.
