State Board of Education Swears In Two New Members, One Reappointment
Arcelio Aponte and Frederick H. LaGarde Jr. were sworn in today as new members of the State Board of Education.
Apontes term expires in 2009. LaGardes term expires in 2011.
Aponte, of Piscataway, Middlesex County, is the Associate Vice President for Facilities and Construction Management at New Jersey City University in Jersey City.
He has a masters degree in business administration from Rutgers University and a bachelors degree in electronic engineering technology from The College of New Jersey.
LaGarde, of Paterson, Passaic County, is the Superintendent of the Dr. Frederick H. LaGarde Sr. Academy in Paterson, a 160-student, privately owned and operated elementary and pre-K school. He is also the owner of LaGarde Funeral Home, Inc. in Paterson and the senior pastor at Community Baptist Church of Love, also in Paterson.
He attended Mercer County Community College for funeral service education, Bergen County Community College for business management, and the Moody Bible Institute for theological and biblical studies.
The State Board of Education also swore in member Kathleen Dietz of Hillsborough, Somerset County for a second term that expires in 2010.
