Macro 3.2     Students construct and extend meaning through listening.

Knowledge:   To accomplish the listening macro, students should know:

LK1 that listening is a mode of thinking, learning, and communicating.
LK2 that speaking, viewing, reading, and writing contribute to listening. 
LK3 strategies for active listening. 
LK4 listeners access and exchange information through verbal/aural and nonverbal messages. 
LK5 that listeners attend to the form, purpose of presentation, and authority of the speaker. 
LK6 that critical reflection and analysis contribute to the listening experience. 
LK7 that critical reflection on multiple perspectives and texts helps the listener construct meaning.
 
Skills:   To accomplish the listening macro, students will be able to:
LS1 select, use, and adjust listening strategies to construct meaning for a variety of purposes. 
LS2 draw on experience for listening. 
LS3 make connections between and among the perspectives of the speaker, listener, and other sources. 
LS4 listen attentively and critically to a variety of presentations. 
LS5 evaluate their own listening using multiple sources.
