Macro 3.4 Students construct and extend meaning when engaging with text.

Knowledge:  To accomplish the reading macro, students should know:

RK1 that reading is a mode of thinking, learning, and communicating. 
RK2 that speaking, viewing, listening, and writing contribute to reading. 
RK3 reading strategies for a variety of texts. 
RK4 literary forms, elements, and devices. 
RK5 that authors and readers have purposes. 
RK6 that critical reflection and analysis contribute to the reading experience. 
RK7 that critical reflection on multiple perspectives and texts helps readers construct meaning. 
 
Skills:  To accomplish the reading macro, students will be able to:
RS1 select, apply, and adjust reading strategies to construct meaning. 
RS2 collaborate in constructing meanings in text. 
RS3  make connections between:
-the text and self. 
-the text and others. 
-the text and other texts. 
RS4 interpret literary forms, elements, and devices.
RS5 draw on experience for reading. 
RS6 evaluate their own reading of text using multiple sources.
