Macro 3.5  Students construct and extend meaning through viewing

Knowledge:  To accomplish the viewing macro, a student should know:


VK1 that viewing is a mode of thinking, learning, and communicating. 
VK2 that speaking, listening, reading, and writing contribute to viewing. 
VK3 that creators of media and performances have a variety of purposes. 
VK4 that creators of media and performances use a variety of forms, techniques and technologies to convey their messages. 
VK5 that critical reflection and analysis contribute to the viewing experience. 
VK6 that critical reflection on multiple perspectives and texts helps the viewer construct meaning. 

Skills:  To accomplish the viewing macro, students will be able to:
VS1 identify elements of media and performance as they relate to text. 
VS2 create and critique media and performance as modes of thinking, learning, and communicating. 
VS3 identify and select media forms and performance types appropriate for the viewer's purposes. 
VS4 identify and select media forms and performance types appropriate for the creator's purposes. 
VS5 draw on experience for viewing. 
VS6 evaluate their own viewing using multiple sources.
