NOTE: This test specification encompasses all strands
of standard
5.3.4.
SPECIAL NOTE: All students should have access to appropriate scientific formulas, calculators, computers, and measurement devises for instruction. |
I |
Macro statement:
Integrate mathematics as a tool for problem solving in science
and as a means of expressing scientific theories. |
II |
Knowledge statement:
In order to demonstrate an understanding of the relationship
between science and mathematics, students must integrate
mathematics within the context of the content area. Students
will employ standards 5.5, 5.6, 5.7, 5.8, 5.9, 5.10 to demonstrate their understanding
of mathematical applications. |
III |
Skill statements:
Skills that are used by students as they discover and explain the relationship between science and mathematics may include: comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis and evaluation. (See appendix A for descriptors of each of the above cognitive levels.)
- Use appropriate number operations.
- Perform mathematical operations based on the degree of precision of the input data.
- Interpret data using graphs, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Formulate mathematical relationships from collected data.
- Use appropriate mathematical tools to collect, display, model, and analyze data.
- Explain the physical relationship expressed by mathematical equations.
- Use computer spreadsheets, graphing and database programs to assist in quantitative analysis.
- Use mathematical models for scientific inquiry.
