The following writing sample for the Sample Persuasive Writing Prompt B scored a "4" based on the New Jersey Registered Holistic Scoring Rubric.

Scorers made the following comments about the sample below:

A position is stated at the beginning of the essay. However, this writing sample contains minimally developed opening and closing paragraphs. Ideas and examples are provided, but the details become repetitious. The paragraphs are organized; however, the focus wavers as healthy alternatives are given (second of all fruit should be mandatory with lunches, along with other healthy foods.) instead of explaining why the ban on junk food should not occur. In order to move this paper to the next level, more development and elaboration of ideas would be needed.
