Writing Sample #2 - Scoring "4"

The following writing sample for the Sample Persuasive Writing Prompt B scored a "4" based on the New Jersey Registered Holistic Scoring Rubric.

Scorers made the following comments about the sample below:

This response states a position (I do agree that something needs to be done, but I'm not sure a ban is the way to do it.) and progresses from beginning to end. The writer states that "children should be given healthy alternatives at lunch." However, elaboration of ideas is not evident. In order to achieve a higher score, the response must be more evenly developed and alternatives to the junk food ban should be clearly stated and elaborated.
