Writing Sample Scoring "4"

The following  writing sample for the Writing To Speculate Prompt scored a "4" based on the New Jersey Registered Holistic Scoring Rubric.  

Scorers made the following comments about the sample below:

This sample shows a strong interdisciplinary connection- creating a short historical fiction. There is good use of dialogue (compositional risk). Vivid language is used, as in, "like drone bees to the queen." There is an unusual theme in, "those who do illegal things will get caught and fail." Finally, this sample shows a strong use of the students' imagination.
