The following  writing sample for the Writing To Speculate Prompt scored a "6" based on the New Jersey Registered Holistic Scoring Rubric.  

Scorers made the following comments about the sample below:

This sample scores a 6 because it shows compositional risk in the use of diction, the development of abstract thoughts, and a good theme. There is a sophisticated writing style and psychological development. The sample uses the repeated imagery of the chair and develops personification and symbolism to show a well-developed and advanced writing sample. There is also a universal theme to the sample and the use of vivid language.
