The following  writing sample for the Writing To Speculate Prompt scored a "4" based on the New Jersey Registered Holistic Scoring Rubric.  

Scorers made the following comments about the sample below:

There is an unusual theme shown in this sample, and the use of the picture details is well done. The story shows a lesson learned. Also, the sample uses vivid language and strong details, such as the background of the history teacher. The sample also shows few mechanical errors to interfere with the meaning.
