Many students have difficulty seeing
the connection of mathematics to their lives. What better
place to draw upon for ideas in this cluster than life itself!
- Head to the newspaper.
- Read through a current events article
and craft at least 3 problems based on real-world situations that
you could present to your students. Be sure to find articles
that will be of some importance and interest to your students.
Work through at least 3 articles in this way, creating 3 different
"scenarios" for each.
- Present the articles and problems
to students in your class.
- As a follow-up, ask students to
select their own articles and create questions from them in this
area.
