These tutorials are designed to help the New Jersey educator and high school student prepare for the high school assessments. The tutorials are designed to be used for practice only. All items have been tested on real students in real classrooms. Both tutorials are based on the non-revised standards.

The Language Arts Literacy HSPA Tutorial provides, for each cluster:

• a summary of the content addressed;
• the scoring rubric used to assess open-ended responses to test items;
• sample test items;
• sample graded student responses for high and low scores;
• detailed explanations of the scoring procedures for sample responses (including video clips from HSPA graders); and
• practice assignments.

Language Arts Literacy Secondary School Writing Assistance

We have divided the Language Arts Literacy holistic scoring rubric into separate sections.

This helps students to score just one area of writing at a time. It is especially useful at the beginning of a school year or for students who need special help in one or two aspects of the writing process.

The Mathematics HSPA Tutorial provides, for each cluster:

• a summary of the content addressed;
• a division into individual macros;
• sample multiple-choice problems with commented responses for both right and wrong answers;
• sample open-ended problems with graded student responses;
• the scoring rubric for open-ended responses; and
• detailed explanations of the scoring procedures for sample responses (including video clips from HSPA graders), for some items.
