Alternative Assessment

There are two kinds of alternate assessments mentioned on the Web, and in the research literature. One involves the different performance assessments, such as portfolios; and the other is more directed at special populations, such as those who are disabled. We have included both here because sometimes one informs the other.

NJDOE's Alternate Proficiency Assessment.

The Alternate Proficiency Assessment (APA) is a portfolio assessment designed to measure progress toward achieving New Jersey’s state educational standards for those students with severe disabilities who are unable to participate in the New Jersey Assessment of Skills and Knowledge (NJASK), the Grade Eight Proficiency Assessment (GEPA), or the High School Proficiency Assessment (HSPA).

Lists each type of assessment accommodations, such as timing, scheduling, setting, presentation, response, and many aspects of each. The articles concerning each accommodation include a description, procedure, and a list of potential problems.
