Literature
Book Adventure "This Web site houses a free motivational reading program for children in grades K-8. Reviews help children pick a book to read, either from a library or bookstore. After the book is read, children can take a quiz online, with the incentive of prizes after a number of quizzes are completed. Parents can monitor their child's activities and find resources for reading challenges in their families. Teachers can access the articles that may help them increase parental involvement. This Web site was developed by Sylvan Learning Centers."

Study Aids
Visual Thesaurus Just type in a word and the Web site will create a visual map showing the word, its meanings and related synonyms. These maps are not just static, you can rotate them in 3D and examine the clusters of meanings.
Writing
Book Hooks Students can publish illustrated book reports, reviews and author biographies at Book Hooks. Readers are encouraged to draft both editorial and generative reviews; write independently or in response to guidelines and to include illustrations, photographs, etc. Students can also contribute material for crossword puzzles and word searches. Grades 2-12.

The Poetry of Langston Hughes

Students select music to accompany a poem they choose to read. They are given one minute to make their poetry presentation.

Southern Regional ETTC - Writing Prompts

The Southern Regional ETTC and The Press of Atlantic City have collaborated to offer a source of photographs that can be used as writing prompts by teachers and students.

There are rhymes, poems, pictures, fables and story starters to get those creative juices flowing.  You can choose from a large selection of write-on clip art as well - each template is formatted to include a picture, optional teacher supplied lexicon box and writing lines sized by grade.
