State of New Jersey Department of Education

Attention Professional Development Providers:
Changes to the New Jersey Department of Education’s Professional Development Provider System

The New Jersey Department of Education has changed its requirements and is no longer registering professional development providers as it has done in the past. This change was made in accordance with the deletion of the provider registry requirements in N.J.A.C. 6A:9-15 which was adopted by the State Board of Education in January 2008.  Although the provider search feature will continue to be made available until January 5, 2009, it is now the responsibility of districts, schools or individuals to review the credentials of the providers and make their own determinations of suitability and level of expertise.

Professional development providers will continue to provide services to districts, schools and individuals at the request of those entities, but they will no longer need or be given a provider registration number. Therefore, teachers will no longer need to include the provider number as proof on the professional development documentation.  However, providers must continue to provide the same type of certificate as before, minus the previously required professional development number.  (A sample certificate may be seen here.)

Thank you for your cooperation. If you have questions, please direct them to the Office of Professional Standards, Licensing, and Higher Education Collaboration c/o providers@doe.state.nj.us.
