Steps toward developing Assessments Animal Adaptation Activity Special Education
for students with severe disabilities
Step One
Decide which local and State Standards that you activity encompasses.
NJ Standard 5.1
NJ Standard 5.3
NJ Standard 5.5
NJ Standard 5.6

NJ Standard 5.7

Step Two
Decide which Cumulative Progress Indicators (CPIs) are involved with the activity.
Standard 5.1: NJ ASK & GEPA
Standard 5.3: NJ ASK & GEPA
Standard 5.5: NJ ASK & GEPA

NJ Standard 5.6

NJ Standard 5.7

There are no CPIs in this category, but you may want to assign indicators for the student(s) involved.

Step Three
Group the Cumulative Progress Indicators to enable a "big picture" view of them.
Standard 5.1 & 5.5 NJ ASK
Standard 5.3 NJ ASK
Standard 5.1 & 5.5 GEPA
Standard 5.3 GEPA
.
Step Four
Target the specific CPIs involved in each standard for this activity.
Standard 5.1 & 5.5 NJ ASK
Standard 5.3 NJ ASK
Standard 5.1 & 5.5 GEPA
Standard 5.3 GEPA
At this stage, you may want to look at indicators from another content area, such as health.
Step Five
Develop questions for each of the CPIs (keeping the Standard in mind) for the particular grade.
Use the Step 5 Worksheet if you would like.

Word Worksheet: with CPIs.
Word Worksheet: blank.
The Step 5 Worksheet will need to be modified.
Step Six
Examine the Science Test Matrix and related pages in the Test Specifications..  Note major emphasis on Systems and Problem Solving.
ESPA Matrix (p.28) and Using the Matrix (p. 27)
Note, too, that 30% of points are on open-ended questions, and 70% on multiple choice (ESPA Types of Items, p.29); and (p.26) "each test question addresses two Macro Statements simultaneously" (i.e. one macro will be taken from 5.1 - 5.5, and the other from 5.6 - 5.12).

GEPA Matrix (p. 5) and Content/Skill Outlines (p. 7 ).  See also  Types of Items (p. 41),  (p.43) "each test question addresses two Macro Statements simultaneously."

.
Step Seven
Combine and/or re-word the questions developed in Step Five.  Decide on whether you would like to use open-ended and/or multiple choice questions.  Use the Step 7 Worksheet if you would like.
