Step One
Decide which local and State Standards that your activity encompasses. These are the Core Standards used prior to using the steps works sheets.

Step Two
Decide which Cumulative Progress Indicators (CPIs) are involved with the activity.
Standards:
6.1, 6.2, 6.3, 6.4, 6.5, 6.6, 6.7, 6.8, 6.9
HSPA Standards:
4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 4.6, 4.8, 4.9, 4.11, 4.12

Step Three
Group the Cumulative Progress Indicators to enable a "big picture" view of them. Target the specific CPIs involved in each standard for this activity.
Standards 6.1, 6.2, 6.3, 6.4, 6.5, 6.6, 6.7, 6.8, 6.9

At this stage, you may want to look at indicators from another content area.
Step Four
Develop questions for each of the CPIs (keeping the Standard in mind) for the particular grade. Use the Step 5 Worksheet if you would like.

The Step 5 Worksheet will need to be modified.
Step Five
Examine the Language Arts Test Matrix and related pages in the Test Specifications.
   
Step Six
Combine and/or re-word the questions developed in Step Five. Decide on whether you would like to use open-ended and/or multiple choice questions. Use the Step 7 Worksheet if you would like.
   
Step Seven
Examine the Test Specifications - especially the Knowledge Statements related to the activity, and Skill Statements, for the particular grade level.
   
Step Eight
Combine and/or reword the questions developed in Step Seven. Use the Step 9 Worksheet if you would like.
