Reading Fluency: Developing the ability to read a text accurately and quickly.
Reading fluency is defined as reading text with speed, accuracy, and proper expression (National Reading Panel, 2000). Fluency provides a bridge between word recognition and comprehension and fluent readers recognize words and comprehend at the same time (Reading First Guidance, p. 3). Gaining fluency in reading involves developing rapid and automatic word identification processes (LaBerge & Samuels, 1974)... (continue reading from New Jersey's Reading First Program Grant Application).
