At each of its public meetings, the State Board of Education recognizes the outstanding achievement of a student or a group of students who worked as a team. The purpose is to honor students who have made a significant contribution to school, community, family or other groups. The student(s) will not be a guest speaker.

The Executive County Superintendent assigned to the state board meeting for any given month will select the student or team. |

The student or team may be selected from elementary, middle or high school. The achievement recognized is not limited to academics or athletic recognition. This is an opportunity to recognize an outstanding contribution that otherwise may not be acknowledged. |

The Executive County Superintendent may solicit recommendations from the county roundtable or any other means that provides a broad-based selection process. |

The Executive County Superintendent will make the initial contact with the district to schedule the student or team and then notify the State Board Office of the selection. |

The district will be responsible for ensuring that the student or team has the appropriate chaperones and transportation to the meeting. |

The district will make available for distribution to the State Board and the public a one-page profile describing the student or team and reasons for the selection. |

The Executive County Superintendent will introduce the student or team and chaperones to the State Board during the public meeting after the Executive County Superintendent is introduced by the Commissioner. |

The Executive County Superintendent will also describe the student’s achievement to the state board and the public. The student will not make formal remarks, but should be prepared to answer questions from State Board members. |

The State Board Office will arrange for a photo with the Commissioner, State Board President and county superintendent. |
