Securing Our Schools (S.O.S) Symposium
The SSBT Initiative combines elements, resources, and guidance from the newly released Local Education Agencies Minimum Requirements for School Safety and Security Plans (N.J.A.C.6A: 16-5.1). Specifically, the initiative consists of direct technical assistance to schools, county-specific coordination with law enforcement, as well as increased communication among and between chief school administrators and local emergency responders. Working with local law enforcement and emergency responders and understanding the same language is of utmost importance in creating a safe community and school environment.
To continue the process of building these vital relationships the School Security Task Force led by NJDOE's Office of School Preparedness and Emergency Planning (OSPEP) will present seven regional symposiums on the state of school preparedness titled, "Securing Our Schools". These S.O.S. symposiums will include current statuses, school security drill law update, the new minimum requirements that all school districts must incorporate into their safety and security plans, and hot topics in the changing face of school security.
