Indicator 14: Post-Secondary Transition Outcomes – Percent of youth who had IEPs, are no longer in secondary school and who have been competitively employed, enrolled in some types of postsecondary school, or both, within one year of leaving school.

Indicator 14, Post-Secondary Transition Outcomes, addresses youth with IEPs who left school including those who graduated, aged out, dropped out or moved and are not known to be continuing within a designated year. Over a five year period, all school districts will be required to collect information on student exiters for this indicator.

NJOSEP followed the procedures for conducting the post-secondary transition outcomes study recommended by the National Center for Post-School Outcomes (NPSO). The survey instrument used to collect information from school exiters was developed by NPSO. The third cohort of districts who participated in the survey completed demographic information on all youth who exited school during 2007-2008 school year. Districts followed up with student exiters one year following graduation to determine the nature and extent of student engagement during that time using the survey instrument developed by NPSO.

Calculation: For each district, a percentage of engagement score was calculated by dividing the total number of students with IEPs no longer in secondary school who reported engagement in competitive employment, post secondary education or both, within one year of leaving high school, divided by the total number of student respondents times 100.
