REQUIREMENTS FOR THIRTY (30) COLLEGE CREDIT ROUTE
TO A STATE-ISSUED HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA

In order for an individual to apply and qualify for a State-Issued high school diploma a candidate must be a New Jersey resident and age 16 and above and complete the following requirements:
- Statewide Assessment Test
Documentation of passing scores on the statewide assessment test (MBS, HSPT9, HSPT 11 or HSPA) must be presented.
- Transcript
An official transcript, including at least thirty (30) general education credits leading to a degree at an accredited institution of higher education must be presented. An official transcript has an original raised seal of the institution. The thirty (30) general education credits must include a minimum of 15 credits with at least three credits in each of the five general education categories as follows: communications, mathematics, science, social science; and humanities. Remedial courses will not satisfy the requirement in the five general education categories:
- COMMUNICATIONS – courses designed to enhance facility in the English language
- MATHEMATICS – courses designed to enhance mathematical conceptual understanding and application including computer science.
- SCIENCE – courses designed to enhance scientific conceptual understanding and application.
- SOCIAL SCIENCE - courses designed to promote social awareness, including understanding social, economic and political problems and the responsibilities of citizenship in an interdependent world; and
- HUMANITIES – courses in literacy, philosophical, foreign language, historical, aesthetic, or other humanistic studies to promote the understanding and transmission of values to one’s own and other cultures.
- Application Form
An application can be obtained by writing to the New Jersey State Department of Education, Office of Vocational-Technical, Career and Adult Programs, Bureau of Adult Education & Family Literacy, P.O. Box 500, Trenton, NJ 08625-0500.
- Verification of Age and Withdrawal from School
Documentation of age and withdrawal from school must be presented by individuals who are 16 and 17 years of age.
- Fees
A money order in the amount of $5.00 made payable to Treasurer, State of New Jersey must be included.
