Internet safety policy requirement for schools and libraries
As cited in the Children's Internet Protection Act (http://www.cybertelecom.org/cda/cipa.htm):
(1) In general - In carrying out its responsibilities under subsection (h) of this section, each school or library to which subsection (h) of this section applies shall -
(A) adopt and implement an Internet safety policy that addresses -
(i) access by minors to inappropriate matter on the Internet and World Wide Web;
(ii) the safety and security of minors when using electronic mail, chat rooms, and other forms of direct electronic communications;
(iii) unauthorized access, including so-called “hacking”, and other unlawful activities by minors online;
(iv) unauthorized disclosure, use, and dissemination of personal identification information regarding minors; and
(v) measures designed to restrict minors’ access to materials harmful to minors; and
(vi) a plan for educating minors about appropriate online behavior, including interacting with other individuals on social networking websites and in chat rooms, and cyberbullying awareness and response
Educating students, parents, teachers and all of the education community on the safety issues surrounding the use of technology, especially the Internet is an essential part of technology planning.
