NATIONAL INFORMATION
- More than 30,000 applications received for the Universal Service Fund by the Schools and Libraries Corporation (SLC).
- All applications will be notified in several waves by the end of January 1999.
- This second wave notifies agencies that submitted approximately 3,300 applications.
- Total amount of Universal Service Funds committed in the form of a discount on eligible services for this wave: $76 million.
NEW JERSEY INFORMATION
- Total amount of Universal Service Funds committed to New Jersey in the form of a discount on eligible services in the second wave: $1,932,717.66. Total amount committed to New Jersey to-date: $3,957,291.45 (2.7% of national total to-date.)
- Total number of awards in NJ: 214. (NJ comprised 6.5% of the national awards.)
- Number of agencies notified in the second wave are: 110. Many agencies filed more than one application for separate services in the following categories:
Non-Public Schools: 23 Public Libraries: 1
Public School Districts: 86 (three Abbott districts received awards in this wave)

Total awards in the second wave for Abbott districts = $126,092.52
Three schools were awarded funding for internal connections: Assumption All Saints School and Sacred Heart School in Jersey City and St. Rose of Lima School in Newark. All three schools receive a 90% discount on internal connections for local area networks for a total $39,993.30.
