FACTS ON NJ E-RATE FUNDING COMMITMENTS - 5

NATIONAL INFORMATION
- More than 30,000 applications received for the Universal Service Fund by the Schools and Libraries Division (SLD).
- All applications will be notified in several waves by mid-February, 1999.
- This fifth wave notified agencies that submitted 4,575 applications.
- Total amount of Universal Service Funds committed in the form of a discount on eligible services for this wave: approximately $212 million.
NEW JERSEY INFORMATION
- New Jersey's schools and libraries have applied for more than $74 million in E-Rate discounts. New Jersey's E-Rate applications would directly benefit 63% of its public school districts, 50% of its non-public schools, and 33% of its libraries throughout the state.
- Total amount of Universal Service Funds committed to New Jersey in the form of a discount on eligible services in the fifth wave: $9,942,304.76. Total amount committed to New Jersey to-date: $15,737,996.21 (3.7% of national total to-date = $429 million.)
- Total number of awards in NJ: 317. (NJ comprised 2.4% of the national awards.)
- Number of agencies notified in the fifth wave is: 111. Many agencies filed more than one application for separate services in the following categories:
Non-Public Schools: 19 Public Libraries: 34
Public School Districts: 58 (eight Abbott districts received awards in this wave)
