NATIONAL INFORMATION

More than 30,000 applications received for the Universal Service Fund by the Schools and Libraries Division (SLD).
All applications will be notified in several waves by mid-February 1999.
This sixth wave notified agencies that submitted approximately 3,400 applications.
Total amount of Universal Service Funds committed nationally in the form of a discount on eligible services for wave six: approximately $192 million.

NEW JERSEY INFORMATION

New Jersey's schools and libraries have applied for more than $74 million in E-Rate discounts. New Jersey's E-Rate applications would directly benefit 63% of its public school districts, 50% of its non-public schools, and 33% of its libraries throughout the state.
Total amount of Universal Service Funds committed to New Jersey in the form of a discount on eligible services in the sixth wave: $14,502,989.44. Total amount committed to New Jersey at this time: $30,240,985.65, which is 4.9% of national total ($621 million).
Total number of awards in NJ: 256. (NJ comprised 2.3% of the national awards.)
Number of agencies notified in the sixth wave: 79. Many agencies filed more than one application for separate services in the following categories:

Public School Districts: 53 (Seven Abbott districts received awards in this wave)

Non-Public Schools: 18

Public Libraries: 8
