NATIONAL INFORMATION

  • More than 30,000 applications received for the Universal Service Fund by the Schools and Libraries Division (SLD).
  • All applications will be notified in several waves by mid-February 1999.
  • This seventh wave notified agencies that submitted approximately 1,500 applications.
  • Total amount of Universal Service Funds committed nationally in the form of a discount on eligible services for wave six: approximately $140 million.

NEW JERSEY INFORMATION

  • New Jersey's schools and libraries have applied for more than $74 million in E-Rate discounts. New Jersey's E-Rate applications would directly benefit 63% of its public school districts, 50% of its non-public schools, and 33% of its libraries throughout the state.
  • Total amount of Universal Service Funds committed to New Jersey in the form of a discount on eligible services in the seventh wave: $5,207,708.44. Total amount committed to New Jersey at this time: $35,448,694.09, which is 4.7% of national total ($761 million).
  • Total number of awards in NJ for wave seven: 142. (NJ comprised 4.1% of the national awards.)
  • Number of agencies notified in the seventh wave: 62. Many agencies filed more than one application for separate services in the following categories:

Public School Districts: 39 (Six Abbott districts received awards in this wave)

Non-Public Schools: 19

Public Libraries: 4
