NATIONAL INFORMATION

  • More than 30,000 applications received for the Universal Service Fund by the Schools and Libraries Division (SLD).
  • All applications will be notified in several waves by the end of February 1999.
  • This ninth wave notified agencies that submitted approximately 3700 applications.
  • Total amount of Universal Service Funds committed nationally in the form of a discount on eligible services for this wave: approximately $323 million.

NEW JERSEY INFORMATION

  • New Jersey's schools and libraries have applied for more than $74 million in E-Rate discounts. New Jersey's E-Rate applications would directly benefit 63% of its public school districts, 50% of its non-public schools, and 33% of its libraries throughout the state.
  • Total amount of Universal Service Funds committed to New Jersey in the form of a discount on eligible services in this wave: $8,161,086.49. Total amount committed to New Jersey at this time: $55,049,995.06, which is 3.9% of national total (approximately $1.4 billion).
  • Total number of awards in NJ for wave nine: 194. (NJ comprised 2.7% of the total national awards.)
  • Number of agencies notified in the ninth wave: 61. Many agencies filed more than one application for separate services in the following categories:
