NATIONAL INFORMATION

More than 30,000 applications received for the Universal Service Fund by the Schools and Libraries Division (SLD).

All applications will be notified in several waves by the end of February 1999.

This ninth wave notified agencies that submitted approximately 3700 applications.

Total amount of Universal Service Funds committed nationally in the form of a discount on eligible services for this wave: approximately $323 million.

NEW JERSEY INFORMATION

New Jersey's schools and libraries have applied for more than $74 million in E-Rate discounts. New Jersey's E-Rate applications would directly benefit 63% of its public school districts, 50% of its non-public schools, and 33% of its libraries throughout the state.

Total amount of Universal Service Funds committed to New Jersey in the form of a discount on eligible services in this wave: $8,161,086.49. Total amount committed to New Jersey at this time: $55,049,995.06, which is 3.9% of national total (approximately $1.4 billion).

Total number of awards in NJ for wave nine: 194. (NJ comprised 2.7% of the total national awards.)

Number of agencies notified in the ninth wave: 61. Many agencies filed more than one application for separate services in the following categories:

Public School Districts: 38 (Four Abbott districts received awards in this wave.)

Non-Public Schools: 12

Public Libraries: 11
