Highly Qualified Staff

Support for Schools Through Higher Qualifications for Paraprofessionals

The No Child Left Behind Act proposed a new requirement to strengthen instruction for low performing children. As of January 8, 2002 paraprofessionals that are supported by Title I funds must meet the following criteria:

(a) Completed at least 2 years of study at an institution of higher education;  
(b) Obtained an associate's (or higher) degree; or
(c) Met a rigorous standard of quality through a formal State assessment
