More than 160 businesses moved to or expanded in New Jersey
TRENTON - Governor Jon S. Corzine today announced that under his Administration, the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (EDA) has finalized over $2.4 billion in financing assistance, business incentives and tax credits, and supported nearly 1,330 projects across the state of New Jersey. More than 160 businesses have taken advantage of EDA programs to move to or expand in New Jersey during the same period of time. The assistance is expected to leverage more than $6 billion in total public/private investment and lead to the creation of an estimated 37,500 permanent jobs and 42,500 construction jobs in the state.
"This news continues to support the trends we have seen over the past several months that are leading to increased private sector job growth," Governor Corzine said. "Despite a national economic recession, more than 160 companies have looked to New Jersey as a desirable location for business relocation, growth and expansion during this time. And I will keep fighting to bring businesses and jobs to our state. "
Through his Economic Assistance and Recovery Plan, the first in the nation, Governor Corzine has advanced many initiatives designed to stimulate New Jersey's economy while also working to protect those hit hardest by the recession, providing for long-term recovery, and creating jobs for the working families of New Jersey. The Governor signed additional economic recovery legislation in July to further reinvigorate the Garden State economy.
"New Jersey's key advantages and enhanced business-friendly measures speak for themselves," said Jerry Zaro, Chief of the Governor's Office of Economic Growth. "Governor Corzine has taken critical steps to support business growth and improve New Jersey's business climate. The net effect is that we have taken our natural strategic advantages and added the rocket fuel of our financial incentives to propel New Jersey ahead of all the competition in emerging from this recession."
Governor Corzine's Office of Economic Growth is committed to making the state more business-friendly by supporting the creation of pro-business legislation and a variety of financing, incentive and assistance programs. Working hand in hand with the EDA, the office serves as a one-stop shop to expedite the delivery of state benefits and products to the business community.
The EDA is a state financing and development agency that works to strengthen New Jersey's economy by retaining and growing businesses through financial assistance, by renewing communities, and by promoting the state's strategic advantages to attract domestic and international business. From loan programs to incentive programs, the state offers a broad range of financing tools that support employee training, clean energy, urban redevelopment, innovation, and job creation and retention. In order for a project to receive incentives offered by the state, it must first demonstrate that the project will produce a net positive economic benefit to New Jersey.
