Along with Triple Five, owner of Mall of America®, announced design and operation plans for the American Dream at the Meadowlands, a destination expected to attract 60 million annual visits, adding 8,900 construction jobs over the next two years and up to 35,000 permanent jobs once it is fully operational
3 February 1, 2011 Set Stage for Atlantic City’s Economic Revitalization. Signed legislation to revitalize Atlantic City, establishing the Atlantic City Tourism District and designating $260 million in financing to support much needed infrastructure projects to set the stage for Atlantic City to once again be a world-class destination resort and engine of job creation and economic growth
4 December 21, 2010 Enacted Critical Tool Kit Measure for Local Governments with Interest Arbitration Reform. Signed key reform agenda legislation to transform New Jersey’s system of interest arbitration, providing a cap of 2% on arbitration awards applied to all public worker salary items and eliminates accruing labor costs by creating a fast-track arbitration process
5 December 9, 2010 Accelerated Work to Improve New Jersey’s Environment and Expand Green Technologies. Signed legislation creating offshore wind energy installations and expanding solar farm developments, and fulfilled pledge to clean up and improve the short and long-term ecological health of Barnegat Bay by announcing a comprehensive plan of action, including an agreement to bring the Oyster Creek Generating Station offline and signing legislation to begin implementing the plan
6 July 13, 2010 Ensured Lasting Property Tax Relief with 2% Cap. Signed into law a 2% hard cap on property taxes, marking the first significant step toward bringing lasting property tax reform to New Jersey
7 June 29, 2010 Closed Unprecedented $11 Billion Budget Gap. Signed the FY 2011 budget that closed a projected $11 billion deficit without raising taxes while protecting the most vulnerable New Jerseyans
8 May 20, 2010 Vetoed Tax Increase, Saving Hundreds of Millions. Vetoed income tax increase legislation, saving New Jersey’s overburdened taxpayers $637 million
9 March 22, 2010 Required Local Government Employees to Contribute to Benefits for First Time. Signed into law first-step pension and health benefits reforms that require future local government public employees to contribute to their generous medical benefits, saving municipalities, counties and school districts $314 million and ensuring the solvency of the system
10 February 11, 2010 Resolved Fiscal Crisis by Solving $2 Billion Budget Shortfall without Raising Taxes. Balanced New Jersey’s FY 2010 budget shortfall with $2.203 billion in budget solutions without raising taxes by achieving savings in programs and departments, targeting waste and ineffective programs, and identifying areas for long-term reform
