Governor Christie Releases Interim Report From President’s Commission On Combating Drug Addiction And The Opioid Crisis

Trenton, NJ - Governor Chris Christie today presented President Donald Trump with the interim report prepared by the President's Commission on Combating Drug Addiction and the Opioid Crisis, which the Governor chairs. The President established the Commission on March 29, 2017 through an executive order to study the scope and effectiveness of the Federal response to drug addiction and the national opioid crisis, and to make recommendations to the President for improving that response in an interim report this summer to be followed with a final report this fall.

"While the Commission's work is ongoing, this report recommends several actions that may be taken by President Trump to address an  opioid epidemic that the Center for Disease Control confirms is killing 142 Americans each day," said Governor Christie. "We have much more work to do before we deliver our final report this fall. However, the Commission is convinced significant steps may be taken before then to roll back an insidious scourge of addiction that is emerging not only  from back alleys and street corners, but also doctor’s offices and hospitals throughout our nation."

The interim report may be accessed here.
