STATEMENT FROM THE GOVERNOR ON THE CONFIRMATION OF MATTHEW BOXER AS THE STATE’S FIRST INDEPENDENT COMPTROLLER
TRENTON -- Governor Jon S. Corzine issued the following statement regarding the New Jersey Senate’s confirmation of Matthew Boxer as the state’s first independent comptroller:
“Through the Senate’s approval of the nomination of Matthew Boxer as the state’s first independent comptroller, the State of New Jersey has gained the services for the next six years of an experienced and dedicated public servant who will work tirelessly as a watchdog on behalf of New Jersey taxpayers.
“When I first proposed this position more than two years ago, I envisioned a comptroller with a keen attention to detail who would relentlessly scrutinize state and local budgets and would tolerate no interference when it comes to the elimination of waste, fraud, and abuse. Matt, with his background as a respected prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney’s Office and as Director of New Jersey’s Authorities Unit, has exhibited the qualities of professionalism and independence that the Comptroller’s mandate demands.
“With Matt assuming this new position, we have initiated another of the significant reforms I have advocated to assure a transparent and accountable government that operates in the best interests of the people of New Jersey. I am pleased Matt has agreed to serve in this demanding yet critical position in our ongoing efforts to structure a sustainable solution to the state’s troubled finances.”
