Dr. Erin Augis
Dr. Erin Augis has recently obtained her Ph.D. in Sociology from
the University of Chicago and is currently a Professor of Sociology
at Ramapo College of New Jersey. For ten years, she has conducted
ethnographic research on communities of Muslims in Senegal and
the Gambia, West Africa. She has published various articles
on African Muslim women and is a contributor to a new book in
her secondary field of interest, U.S. urban poverty and race
relations. Dr. Augis is also actively involved in literacy work
with Muslim immigrants in West Harlem.
Dr. Mark S. Howenstein
Dr. Mark S. Howenstein has several advanced degrees. He received
a Ph.D. in Jurisprudence and Social Policy, from the University
of California, Berkeley, an M.A. from Washington University,
a J.D. from Tulane Unversity, and a B.A. from St. Louis University.
He is a member of the Law and Society faculty at Ramapo College,
and has numerous publications and presentations in the area
of law and human rights.
Dr. S. Virginia Gonsalves-Domond
Dr. S. Virginia Gonsalves-Domond is a member of the psychology
faculty at Ramapo College. She has a Ph.D. from City University
of New York, M.A. degrees from City University and Hunter College,
and a B.A. from Hunter College. She has done extensive research
in the area of social psychology, and has a particular interest
in multicultural issues.
Dr. Marcy Kelly
Dr. Marcy Kelly received her Ph.D. from the Department of Microbiology
and Molecular Genetics at the University of Medicine and Dentistry
of New Jersey in February 2001. She is currently an Assistant
Professor of Biology at Pace University. In September 2002,
she received a three-year grant to perform microbiological research
with undergraduate students from the National Science Foundation.
The focus of her research is to study the effects of antibacterial
product usage on the emergence of antibiotic resistance in bacteria.
Dr. Kelly has been involved with the Governor's School program
for the past four years.
Dr. Clifford E. Peterson
Dr. Clifford E. Peterson, has a B.A. from Rutgers University and
a Ph.D. from John Hopkins University in the field of International
Politics. He has played a key role in the Internationalization
of Ramapo's curriculum. His teaching and research have focused
on international relations and law, and the United Nations.
He has been a member of the faculty at Ramapo since 1972.
Dr. Jonathan Plaut
Dr. Jonathan Plaut is a Visiting Professor at Penn State on Environmental
Policy. This will be his third year teaching at the Governor's
school at Ramapo College of New Jersey.
Dr. Sam A. Mustafa
Dr. Sam A. Mustafa received his Ph.D. in History from the University
of Tennessee in 1999. He has been teaching at Ramapo College
since 2001, when he was hired to teach in two fields: modern
European history and contemporary Middle East. He has written
extensively about Germany during the revolutionary and Napoleonic
eras, and is a frequent speaker on the history and traditions
of Islam. |
