Tobacco
use is taking a terrible toll in our state. Over 13,000 residents die
annually of cancer and other tobacco related diseases. These deaths are
preventable, but only if people can stop smoking. Sound simple? It's not.
If you
are among the 70 percent of smokers who say they want to stop, you know
how difficult it can be. New Jersey is the only state in the nation currently
offering this menu of treatment options based on personal preference.
New Jersey Quitnet and Quitline are free to New Jersey residents.
Quitcenter services are provided on a sliding fee scale.
Supported with funds from the excise tax, New Jersey's treatment program
is a cornerstone of the state's Comprehensive Tobacco Control Program
(CTCP).
Winning
takes teamwork. All smokers are not alike. The key to quitting is finding
an approach tailored just for you. New Jersey's services offer help on
the Internet, over a toll-free phone line or through counseling centers
located throughout the state. These programs work in cooperation with
one another, referring you to the service that is best suited to your
needs. Call, log on or visit a center near you -- the important thing
is to take that first step.
