9,589 students. Data was collected statewide.

- 6.0% used cigars
- 5.1% used bidis
- 3.6% used smokeless tobacco
- Cigarette use by gender:
- 4.9% of male students
- 7.0% of female students
- Cigarette use by race:
- 4.5% of White students
- 6.9% of Black students
- 11.5% of Hispanic students

High School Students (30 day use)
- 24.5% used cigarettes
- 17.1% used cigars
- 8.5% used bidis
- 6.9% used smokeless tobacco
- Cigarette use by gender:
- 24.0% of male students
- 25.0% of female students
- Cigarette use by race:
- 28.3% of White students
- 12.6% of Black students
- 23.5% of Hispanic students

YOUTH ACCESS TO CIGARETTES
- 34% of high school students who smoke buy their cigarettes in a store.
- 11% of middle school students who smoke buy their cigarettes in a store.
LEVEL OF ADDICTION OF ESTABLISHED, CURRENT CIGARETTE SMOKERS
- 55% of established, current cigarette smokers express an interest
in quitting. Of these:
- 55% reported a serious quit attempt in the past year
- 44% did not think they could quit
