Campylobacteriosis, (Campylobacter sp.)
CLINICAL DESCRIPTION
Campylobacteriosis is an acute enteric disease characterized by diarrhea, abdominal pain, fever, and occasionally other gastrointestinal or systemic symptoms. The disease is transmitted by ingestion of the bacteria in undercooked chicken and pork, contaminated food and water, or raw milk; and from contact with infected infants, pets (puppies and kittens), or farm animals. The incubation period is usually 2 to 5 days, with a range of 1 to 10 days. Prolonged illness and relapses may occur. Person to person transmission appears to be uncommon.
