The Surveillance Unit is responsible for the collection, storage, analysis and interpretation of STD data in the State of New Jersey. Reports are collected from health care providers and laboratories, reviewed, and entered into a database. New infections are forwarded to field staff for investigation. Quality assurance is performed using the STD Management Information System (STD MIS) and data is analyzed annually, quarterly, and monthly to monitor disease trends across age, sex, race, and geographical location.
Overall yearly statistical totals of STDs in New Jersey are posted at http://www.nj.gov/health/cd/std/stdstats.shtml. Further data is available to key internal staff, STD Program partners, and researchers. Please contact the STD Program at (609) 588-7526 for more information.
