Termination of Crow Submissions
Government Information Departments and Agencies NJ Business Portal MY New Jersey NJ people NJ Home Page
West Nile Virus (WNV) has been confirmed in 20 counties in New Jersey in 2002. With mosquito season coming to an end and other priority demands being placed on our public health system, please be notified that the Department of Health & Senior Services (DHSS) is terminating all bird submissions effective November 1, 2002. The geographic distribution of West Nile activity has been well documented throughout the state, so it is not necessary to continue testing birds.

Please Note: The WNV supplemental courier's last day of service will be October 31, 2002.

Human surveillance will continue through the end of November. Human specimens will be accepted provided the onset of symptoms occurred during September or October. Physicians are still required to contact DHSS to discuss the patient and obtain approval for testing.

Thanks for your cooperation and efforts during the WNV season. If you have additional questions or concerns don't hesitate to call Sherry Groninger at 609-588-3121.
