Consultation Services
The PEOSH Consultation Project
provides free, on-site evaluations of potential occupational health hazards
to public employers. The services are confidential and no citations are
issued for violations identified during a consultation. Click

Model Fire Department Respiratory Protection Program

size 129 KB). To assist fire departments in complying with the PEOSH Respiratory
Protection Standard requirements, we have updated this Model Program.
The revised PEOSH Respiratory Protection Standard (29 CFR 1910.134) was
adopted on September 21, 1998, with a compliance date of March 21, 1999.
At the same time, the PEOSH Standards for Firefighters (N.J.A.C. 12:100-10.10)
were amended.
Guidelines for Occupational
Safety and Health Programs
The purpose of these guidelines is to assist public sector
employers in setting up an Occupational Safety and Health Program in their
workplaces. How to File a Complaint
Any employee, group of employees or employee representative
who believes that a violation of a health or safety standard exists, or
that an imminent danger exists, may request an inspection by completing
a PEOSH complaint form.

The Public Employees Occupational Safety
and Health (PEOSH) Program has the responsibility to implement the Department
of Health and Senior Services' (NJDHSS) mandate under the 1984 New Jersey
Occupational Safety and Health Act.
This mandate is to develop and enforce
occupational health standards for public employees throughout the State,
and to encourage employers and employees in their efforts to improve the
working environment.
The PEOSH Act is administered by two departments,
they are:
NJDHSS: The New Jersey
Department of Health and Senior Services investigates complaints regarding
health hazards in the workplace. To obtain more

NJDLWD:
The New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development investigates
complaints regarding safety hazards in the workplace. In
addition, NJDLWD is responsible for administering and enforcing the Act
